Bringing together recent drawings, paintings and prints by Anton Kannemeyer, Pappa in Afrika offers a confrontational and witty critique of European colonialism and its ongoing legacy in Africa. Kannemeyer juxtaposes factual and realistic images with outrageous comic imagery and provocative text. Parodying Hergé's Tintin in the Congo (1931), he delves into the underlying racism of the colonial project and the corruption that persists in Africa today. Kannemeyer also takes on the vigorous debates around race that enliven and shadow daily life in South Africa.
